Sunny Days is a drama film from 2016 directed by Kieren Valla. The story revolves around a group of friends who come together to help their friend Nick (played by Nick Banko) who is struggling with anxiety and depression. The friends include his best friend, Jack (played by Jack Daly), Jack's girlfriend Emily (played by Emily Burke), Nick's ex-girlfriend Sarah (played by Sarah Paige), and Sarah's new boyfriend Josh (played by Josh Whalen).
The film opens with Nick struggling to get out of bed and facing difficulties at work due to his mental health issues. Jack senses that something is wrong and reaches out to their group of friends to help Nick. They all agree to meet up at Nick's house to spend the day together and try to cheer him up.
The day begins with a trip to the beach where they all surf, play beach volleyball, and have a BBQ. The group reminisces about old times and shares stories, while Nick's mood slowly starts to lift. However, as the day progresses, tensions start to rise between Nick and Sarah, who broke up with him a year ago. Sarah's new boyfriend, Josh, also adds to the tension by constantly provoking Nick.
Throughout the day there are flashbacks to Nick's past, depicting how his anxiety and depression have affected his relationships with his friends and family. These flashbacks give insight into Nick's struggles and help the audience understand the reasons behind his mental health issues.
As the day draws to a close, the group decides to go camping in the nearby woods. However, things take a turn for the worse when Jack gets injured and suddenly everything becomes serious. The group must work together to get Jack to safety and Nick steps up to take charge in a moment of crisis. This experience helps him realise that he is capable of overcoming his mental health issues and that his friends and family will always be there to support him.
The movie ends with the group returning home and Nick thanking his friends for being there for him. He tells them that he has realised that he needs to take control of his mental health and seek professional help. The friends all embrace, and the movie ends on a positive note.
Sunny Days is a heartwarming movie that deals with the serious issue of mental health in a sensitive and realistic way. The characters are well-developed and relatable, and the performances by the actors are excellent, particularly Nick Banko who gives a compelling portrayal of a person struggling with mental health issues. The movie is beautifully shot with stunning scenery, and the soundtrack is also worth mentioning as it adds to the emotional depth of the film.
Overall, Sunny Days is a must-watch for anyone who has experienced mental health issues or knows someone who has. It is a reminder that no one should ever feel alone, and that with the support of friends and family, it is possible to overcome even the toughest of challenges.
