The Beckoning Silence tells the tale of Joe Simpson, a mountaineer who is deeply passionate about his life's calling despite the act itself being among the most dangerous endeavors a person could take upon himself. Joe Simpson has come as close to death as anyone can get as a result of his mountain climbing adventures. He reminisces of Toni Kurz, a master climber who faced serious trial and tribulation on a climb in 1936. While climbing to the peak of a mountain in the Alps, Toni Kurz and his three men faced extreme terror as individually Kurz's men were dying, eventually leaving himself as the only survivor of the treacherous climb. The Beckoning Silence is meant to encourage and instill a sense of bravery.

The Beckoning Silence is a 2007 documentary with a runtime of 1 hour and 15 minutes. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 7.4.
