This is a comedy movie about the life of a bumbling Navy sailor. Life has not been very good to Norman Puckle. His girlfriend has left him and he is not competent enough to commit suicide. He is saved by a Navy officer who convinces him to join up. The officer promises Norman will meet plenty of girls. As he bumbles through basic training, he realizes the Navy is not all he hoped it would be. Norman is chosen, after basic training, to ride on a rocket into space. He must find his way through that training or he will not be allowed to go on the mission.
