Hotel guest J. Effingham Bellwether finds a lady so charming he offers to teach her golf. Unfortunately, her husband the house detective poses a problem. There's also a nuisance of a little girl to contend with. Somehow, Bellwether and the wife sneak out to the links, where he instructs her on the fine art of putting--or tries to. There are so many interruptions and distractions that he seems to be hitting everything but the ball. Bellwether might just strangle the caddy too, who has inexplicably picked this moment to eat a whole pie. This was W. C. Fields' first talkie.
