Vietnam created innovations in chemicals and computers, WWII was fueled by espionage and politics. The Great War inspired engineering feats never before used in times of conflict. The flame thrower, the solid fuel tank, fighter planes, and the quarter-ton shell known as Big Bertha all made their debuts in the Great War. 1914 was the start of a worldwide fight that saw national powers inventing massive land behemoths to answer the threat of imperial invasion.
