Identification of the perpetrators has always been a challenge in criminalistics. However, at the end of the XIX century a Frenchman, Alphonse Bertillon, developed a scientific method to identify offenders. He has developed an anthropological technique of anthropometry, which combined detailed measurement and classification of unique features with frontal and profile photographs of suspects.
