“The Last September” (2000) is a period drama that depicts life at Danielstown country mansion during the Irish War for Independence. Originally based on the novel by Elizabeth Bowen and set in 1920s Ireland, there is much political tension resulting from Irish Catholic majority's efforts in attempting to push upper class Anglo-Irish Protestants out of the country. The story centers around the lives of an extended family including the Naylors, the Montmorencys and many more. As the movie progresses, the family realizes that the life they have known in Ireland is slowly coming to any end. So many factors come together in this intriguing period drama. There are many infatuations, political issues and social issues that make this drama all the more exciting. Will these political and social events tear the family apart? Or will they remain close together?
