"The Messenger" is a 2009 drama starring Ben Foster and Woody Harrelson. Ben Foster plays Will Montgomery, a young injured Iraq war veteran who is assigned upon his return to the states the daunting task of informing families that their loved ones have been killed in war. Foster meets his partner Tony Stone, played by Woody Harrelson, a jaded Captain that has been acting as a "messenger" for years. The relationship is rocky and tumultuous from the beginning and Foster comes in with no respect for the older Harrelson.

Throughout the movie Foster learns from Harrelson and begins to respect the role he has been given. Both Foster and Harrelson are able to see firsthand how hard it is for the friends and families of the military as their loved ones are across the world fighting a questionable war. Both actors reveal their inner selves and are able to bond as a result and see that they are extremely similar despite seeming so different on the outside.
