The Nine Lives of Marion Barry is a documentary film that was released on HBO in 2009. The film focuses on the life of Marion Barry before he was nationally known for the crack bust in 1990. Before he was the mayor of Washington DC, Marion Barry grew up in Mississippi. When he attended college, he became involved in civil rights and became the first president of SNCC at Fisk University. After college he continued to be involved in Civil Rights and became a well known Civil leader in Washington D.C.. In 1978 he became the first black mayor in Washington D.C. and held the position for 12 years. The documentary highlights the good and the bad of the late civil leader. Though the public have scene the bad when he done drugs, he have done a great deal of good to change Washington D.C. as a city as it is today.
