The 1996 film adaptation of Mark Twain's classic novel "The Prince and the Pauper" tells the story of two boys who are identical in appearance but born into vastly different social classes. Edward Tudor, the Prince of Wales, and Tom Canty, a poor street urchin, meet by chance and strike up an unlikely friendship. Phillip Sarson stars as Tom Canty, a young boy living in poverty in 16th century London. He is forced to beg on the streets to survive and constantly dreams of a better life. Meanwhile, John Bowe portrays Prince Edward Tudor, who is being groomed to become the next king of England. Despite his royal position, Edward is sheltered and has been taught very little about the life of ordinary people.

One day, Tom and Edward cross paths and end up trading places. Tom is amazed by the luxurious life he suddenly finds himself experiencing as a prince, while Edward is astonished by the harsh conditions and mistreatment of the lower classes. Each boy learns valuable lessons about the other's lifestyle and begins to see the world from a different perspective.

As Tom struggles to pass himself off as the prince, he must navigate the complex royal court and deal with the treachery of the selfish and cunning Lord Hertford, played by Peter Jeffrey. Hertford is determined to take the throne for himself and has his sights set on eliminating anyone who stands in his way, including the true prince and the impostor Tom.

Despite the constant danger and challenges, Tom and Edward work together to try and regain their rightful places in society. Along the way, they encounter a cast of colorful characters, such as the kindly Father Andrew and the conniving Captain of the Guard.

The movie is a heartwarming and entertaining adaptation of Twain's story, filled with adventure, humor, and important messages about social inequality and empathy. The film also boasts impressive production design and costuming, effectively immersing the audience in the historical setting.

Overall, "The Prince and the Pauper" is a fun and engaging movie that is suitable for all ages. It successfully captures the essence of Twain's beloved tale and brings it to life on screen with charm and wit.
