The Skull is a 1960's horror film staring Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing and directed by Freddie Francis. The plot of the film revolves around a mysterious skull, which later turns out to be that of none other than the dubious novelist and hedonist, the Marquis de Sade. Sade's skull is offered to a famed writer on occult rituals, Christopher Maitland (played by Cushing). However, he quickly discovers that the shadowy man who offered him the skull in the first place has stolen it from his friend, a collector of antiquities named, Phillips (played by Lee). Yet when Maitland offers to return the artifact to Phillips the man adamantly refuses and claims that it is possessed by the dark spirit of the Marquis and that it nearly killed him. Dark and strange events then quickly begin to unfold for the clueless and skeptical Maitland.
