The Snowman is a 2017 crime thriller film directed by Tomas Alfredson, based on the novel of the same name by Jo Nesbø. The movie follows the career of a brilliant but troubled detective, Harry Hole, as he attempts to track down a serial killer who is targeting women in Oslo, Norway. The killer's calling card is a snowman left at each of his crime scenes, and Harry and his team must race against time to stop him before he strikes again.

The movie stars Michael Fassbender as Harry Hole, alongside Rebecca Ferguson, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and J.K. Simmons. The film received mixed reviews from critics, with many praising the performances of the cast but criticizing the film's confusing plot and lack of character development.

The movie begins with a flashback to 1980, where a young boy named Jonas witnesses his mother, a married woman having an affair with a man. The man, who is revealed to be Jonas's father, becomes violent and eventually kills Jonas's mother. Fast forward to the present day, and a young woman named Sylvia is reported missing. Harry and his team, including his new partner Katrine Bratt, investigate the case and discover that Sylvia may be the latest victim of a serial killer who marks his crimes with a snowman.

As the investigation progresses, Harry discovers that the killer may have a connection to a case he worked on years ago. He teams up with the victim's son, Oleg, to try and solve the case, but Oleg's involvement puts him in danger.

As Harry and his team race to find the killer before he can strike again, they come to realize that the killer is always one step ahead of them. He seems to have a deep knowledge of their investigation, and it soon becomes clear that he is targeting Harry specifically.

The Snowman is a slow-burning thriller that rewards patient viewers with a chilling and suspenseful conclusion. The movie's strength lies in its performances, with Fassbender delivering a nuanced and engaging portrayal of Harry Hole. Ferguson is also excellent as the mysterious and enigmatic Katrine, and the film benefits from strong supporting performances from Gainsbourg and Simmons.

However, the movie's plot can be confusing at times, and some of the characters feel underdeveloped. The movie's pacing can also be a bit slow, which may turn off viewers looking for a faster-paced thriller.

Despite its flaws, The Snowman is an entertaining and engaging thriller that is worth watching for its strong performances and eerie atmosphere. Fans of the novel and crime thrillers in general will likely find plenty to enjoy in this adaptation.
