The Song Remains the Same is a documentary film that follows the legendary rock band Led Zeppelin. The film was shot over the course of a number of concerts that took place in 1973 including concerts in Madison Square Gardens, London, and Shepperdon Studios. Unlike many other rock videos The Song Remains the Same was shot with the intention of seeing it in theaters, and so the sound recording is high quality. The Song Remains the Same features a number of rare interviews with members of the band, and footage of them performing in front of large crowds. The Song Remains the Same also features a huge number of dream sequence trance scenes. These scenes feature graphic images, drawing, and a large number of animations. Many of the scenes were shot outside of concert halls and then altered with animation. These scenes were intended to serve as artist representations of each musician’s personality, and they have strong themes towards adventure, manliness, and the occult.
