Once the wars were won, the US needed other heroes to showcase the ingenuity and inventiveness of the best minds in the country. An unconquered landscape was the land speed record. On the Bonneville Salt Flats, hoards of world class racers looked for opportunities to break the land speed records. Only a handful of racers had the scientific and auto design professionals in their team arsenals to achieve greatness. 200 mph was a losing speed for the best in American racing. Far faster marks were posted as a goal for all future racers to aim for.
