Watch The Sugar Babies

This film examines the creation and rise of the sugar trade in The Dominican Republic, where descendants of African slaves toil on plantations not very different than the conditions that their ancestors lived under. Human trafficking is a part of the problem, with exploitation having deep roots amongst the history of sugar cane in the region.
