Watch The Wizard of the Strings

This American short documentary film was nominated for an Academy Award and focuses on the life of American musician Roy Smeck. Smeck was known as the "Wizard of the Strings" for his mastery of the ukelele, guitar, banjo and other stringed instruments. The film features interviews with Smeck himself mixed with live performance footage, rare audio tracks and interviews with other bluegrass, rock and roots music musicians he performed with. Smeck died in 1994 at the age of 94. His prolific career spanned six decades and produced over 500 recordings and countless live performances.
