From rush-hour Tokyo to the remote mountains, travel with us across Japan to explore the practice of zen today. With unrestricted access, we will take you inside the modern Zen centers and traditional Zen monasteries to witness this little known world. Step inside the meditation hall or Zendo to experience Zazen - the practice of sitting - this is real Zen. In Japan the cloistered lifestyle of the zen monk is in decline but zen meditation is actually spreading especially in the west. The Zen Mind is full of contrasts as we travel across Japan from Tokyo's lunchtime business people at the dogen sangha to remote mountain monasteries where formal rituals survive a thousand years. This contrast heightens as we enter Japan's largest soto zen monastery and join the monks in their everyday workplace, cooking, cleaning and in zazen practice. The ultimate goal being to rid the mind of all ego and self doubt and to reach self-realization and enlightenment or satori.
The Zen Mind is a 2007 documentary with a runtime of 56 minutes.
