Sexual abuse of children by women is still a social taboo. The idea contradicts all the usual cliches. Women are primarily the victims of sexual violence and not the perpetrators. But experts estimate that women commit 15-20% of sexual abuse. Usually it is mothers who abuse their own children. These cases are hardly ever brought to court - and convictions are even more seldom. It is often difficult to determine with certainty where loving concern ends and sexual violence starts.
