Ray and Jolene are both paid artists living in large cities and estranged from their aboriginal roots. Both wrestle with how to balance the traditions of their aboriginal forebears with the demands of an urban city that yields little support for those cultures. Neither of them knows their speech, spirituality, or traditions of their ancestors; Jolene confesses that she has never learned prayer. While both are in relationships with non-aboriginals, Ray's girlfriend's impending pregnancy leaves him unsure of fatherhood and Jolene's spouse balks at her quest for understanding her roots. As Ray and Jolene draw closer, they reassess their lives.
