USA vs. Al-Arian is a 2007 documentary chronicling the plight of Muslim-American Sami Al-Arian and his family as he confronts terrorism charges brought against him by the United States Government. Al-Arian, a professor and civil rights activist with pro-Palestinian beliefs, was arrested in Tampa Florida in 2003 on charges of conspiring to aid a terrorist organization. This documentary traces the years Al-Arian spent in solitary confinement, his lengthy legal battle, and his struggle to keep his family united from behind bars. As the story unfolds, it becomes apparent that this film is as much about familial love as it is about difficult issues surrounding the criminal justice system.
