Vietnam Colony is a Malayalam-language Indian film released in 1992. Directed by Siddique-Lal, the movie stars the legendary Mohanlal and Innocent in leading roles. The film is a comedy-drama that follows the lives of a group of Kerala villagers who migrate to Vietnam in search of a better life. The film's narrative opens with the introduction of Swarnavel, a wealthy man in Vietnam. The villagers of Kumaranalloor, a small village in Kerala, admire Swarnavel's lifestyle and start to look up to him as an inspiration. The villagers decide to go to Vietnam as unskilled laborers for the construction of the Colombo-Vietnam Canal project.

Upon their arrival, they find that Vietnam is quite different from their expectations. The villagers are shocked to see the stinking, unhygienic environment, and the language barrier makes their transition even more difficult. However, thanks to Swarnavel's connections, they find work as construction laborers.

The villagers start to create a mini Kerala in Vietnam, with 'Chakka' (jackfruit) and 'Thenge' (coconut) trees, and even Kuttanad-style boats. They manage to start a decent life, but problems arise when some of the workers become homesick and come back to India. The remaining laborers also face a lot of challenges in Vietnam as they are accused of attacking a Vietnamese girl, which later results in a hilarious court scene.

Apart from the challenges of living in Vietnam, there are also the challenges they face from other colonizers. A group of Hare Krishnas, who had previously colonized a part of Vietnam, create trouble and animosity between the villagers and their colleague workers. Additionally, there is the growing tension between the people and the corrupt officials who aim to exploit them at every turn.

Throughout the movie, there are several sub-plots involving the different characters, all of which come to a happy and amusing end. For instance, the bachelor who couldn't find a wife in Kerala finally finds one in Vietnam, and a loafer who always lacked opportunities in Kerala manages to find a successful business in Vietnam.

One of the highlights of the movie is the casting of Mohanlal and Innocent. The two actors, known for their comic timing and natural acting, deliver an outstanding performance. Innocent's portrayal of Varkey, the village simpleton, is brilliant, and Mohanlal, as usual, delivers a fantastic performance.

Vietnam Colony has a beautiful soundtrack composed by S. Balakrishnan. The songs are catchy and well suited to the narrative. The film's cinematography by Azhagappan is competent, and the visuals paint a vivid picture of Vietnam and its culture.
