Volando Voy is a Spanish comedy-drama film from 2006, directed by Miguel Albaladejo. The film tells the story of two very different men who find themselves having to live together and learn to accept one another. The movie stars Borja Navas as Dani, an ambitious and free-spirited young man, and Fernando Tejero as Salvador, a middle-aged man who feels as if he's lost his way in life.
The film begins with Dani, a young gay man who lives with his mother and grandmother in a small Spanish town. Dani dreams of leaving his hometown and traveling the world, but feels held back by his responsibilities to his family. One day, he meets Salvador, a gay man who is older and much more conservative than Dani. Salvador is thrown out of his home by his long-term partner and is forced to find shelter with Dani and his family.
At first, the two men don't get along well. Salvador is deeply unhappy and feels that his life is over, while Dani is too focused on his own dreams and ambitions to pay much attention to Salvador's problems. However, as time goes on, the men begin to open up to one another and form a bond.
During their time together, the men explore their sexuality and learn to accept themselves for who they are. Dani's dreams of traveling the world are reignited by Salvador's stories of his own travels, and the two men start to plan a trip together. Along the way, they both face their own personal struggles, but the bond they form helps them to navigate these challenges.
One of the most touching parts of the film is the relationship between Dani and his grandmother. She is very accepting of Dani's sexuality, and their scenes together provide some of the film's most heartwarming moments. Dani's mother, on the other hand, is more conservative and struggles to accept Dani for who he is.
The movie also deals with themes of loss and regret. Salvador's partner dies early in the film, and Salvador is left grappling with feelings of guilt and sadness. Meanwhile, Dani's father died young, and he feels that he missed out on a lot by not having his father around. As they learn to accept their pasts, both men are able to move forward and find new meaning in their lives.
Volando Voy features strong performances from both Borja Navas and Fernando Tejero. Navas brings a youthful energy to the role of Dani, while Tejero infuses Salvador with a quiet dignity. Mariola Fuentes also delivers a strong performance as Dani's mother.
Overall, Volando Voy is a touching and relatable film that deals with themes of acceptance, grief, and the importance of living life to the fullest. While it is a comedy-drama, the film never feels heavy-handed or preachy. Instead, it tells a simple story about two men who find themselves together and discover that they have more in common than they ever could have imagined.
