Zegen is the true story of Iheiji Muraoka, “The Boss of the South Seas” who built a brothel empire in Asia between the two World Wars. Muraoka, also called Zegen, leaves the military and builds multiple brothels throughout Japan and Asia. As Japan built its empire leading up to its involvement in World War II, so does Zegen build an empire of brothels in the region. As Zegen acquires wealth and enjoys the perks of being Asia’s most powerful pimp, we see how he regards his success as a patriotic endeavor as well, advancing Japan’s global ambitions.
