The episode begins with a visit to a community garden in South LA, where Choi meets with activist Ron Finley. Known as the "Gangsta Gardener," Finley started the garden as a way to address food insecurity and provide healthy produce to his neighborhood. Choi and Finley discuss the importance of empowering communities through food and using gardening as a form of protest against the industrial food system.

Next, Choi travels to San Quentin State Prison to meet with former inmate and culinary program graduate Adolfo "Sharky" Perez. Perez explains how the culinary program gave him a sense of purpose and helped him to heal from his time in prison. He also talks about the challenges of finding work as a formerly incarcerated person and the role that food served in his rehabilitation.

Later in the episode, Choi meets with Chef Nyesha Arrington, who runs a pop-up restaurant series with a focus on highlighting the stories of African American women.
