Susan tells Sally that because Patrick still won’t communicate, Sally will have to end the relationship for him. Jeff has gotten a job at a fast food restaurant but hates it. He can’t wait to leave, but fills out an application for a position elsewhere in the company anyway. When he gets an offer for a higher position within the fast food chain, he turns it down, hoping not to be stuck in the service industry forever. When Sally ends her relationship with Patrick on behalf of Susan, he is surprisingly fine with it. This prompts Sally to worry that he didn’t care about their relationship at all. Jeff finds out that due to a minor communication error, he has actually accepted the high-paying job he originally turned down. Oops! Patrick takes Richard and Steve out drinking to celebrate his newfound freedom from Sally. While Steve and Richard really just want to go home, Richard doesn’t protest because of what happened earlier with Sally telling Susan about him sleeping around. Richie has been acting differently toward Steve since finding out about Sally sleeping with him. After coming home from the bar completely drunk, Patrick calls Sally and tells her he loves her. Sally is stunned and isn’t sure what to make of it. Jeff is nervous about his new job and his ability to meet the standards expected of him. Steve tries to help him gain some confidence by encouraging Jeff to confront his fears. Susan is less than thrilled when Sally tells her about Patrick’s late-night love declaration. Susan reveals her concerns about how Patrick might take the news of Sally’s rejection. Sally is confused and unsure of what she wants in her romantic life. Patrick goes to Susan’s apartment and demands to talk to Sally, but Susan insists that this isn’t a good idea at the moment. Patrick is persistent and ends up bursting into Sally’s apartment to confront her. Jeff, now the assistant manager of the fast food restaurant, is already cracking under the pressure of the job. The staff is caught off guard when Jeff reveals his plans to leave. Steve confronts Richard about his change in attitude toward him and Sally. Richard confesses that he was angry with Sally for telling Susan about their one-night stand. Steve accuses Richard of still being in love with Sally. Richard angrily denies these accusations and accuses Steve of being the one in love with Sally. Patrick asks Sally if she can give him another chance, but she is unwilling to do so considering all the problems they had in their relationship. Patrick admits that he was initially in love with the idea of having a girlfriend, rather than with Sally herself, and realizes now that he needs to work on himself. Sally appreciates his honesty but still wants to move on. Susan calls Patrick and tells him about Sally’s decision. Patrick is genuinely hurt and shocked. Sally confides in Susan about her lingering feelings for Patrick and wonders if she made the right choice. Jeff’s final speech at the fast food restaurant is highly eccentric, and the staff looks on in disbelief. Afterwards, he thanks Steve for giving him the confidence to speak his mind and leaves the job behind. Patrick arrives at Sally’s apartment and tells her that he is going to be working on himself and hopes to win her back someday. Sally acknowledges his efforts, but makes it clear that she needs time to think and doesn’t want any future contact for now. Patrick reluctantly agrees. Richie and Jane go on a double date with Steve and Susan. Richie’s possessive attitude towards Steve is still causing tension between the two of them.
