The series was produced by Toei and aired in Japan from February 14, 1997, to February 15, 1998. The show follows a group of high school students who are chosen to become Power Rangers to defend the Earth from a group of alien invaders.
In this episode, Kenta Date, the Yellow Megaranger, is having a carefree New Year's Eve by watching a baseball game on TV and eating snacks at home. He is not interested in going out to celebrate with his friends, but his best friend, Kouichirou Endou, convinces him to change his mind. Kouichirou tells Kenta that they should go out and enjoy themselves since they are still young and have the energy to do so.
Kenta reluctantly agrees to go out but is not sure what he wants to do. Kouichirou suggests they go to a local shrine for the countdown and gives Kenta a good-luck charm to help him with his studies. Kenta accepts the charm and puts it in his school bag.
As they walk to the shrine, Kenta sees his high school crush, Chisato, and her friends. He becomes nervous and starts to panic. Kouichirou tells him to relax and have fun. They arrive at the shrine and take part in the countdown, where Kenta makes a wish for good grades.
After the countdown, Kenta and Kouichirou see Chisato and her friends again, and they all decide to go to an entertainment center to play games. Kenta, who is good at arcade games, impresses Chisato with his skills, and the two of them start to talk. Kouichirou meets a girl named Hikaru, who is interested in photography.
As they play games, Kenta realizes he left his school bag at the shrine and becomes upset. He rushes back to the shrine to retrieve the bag, but it is gone. He becomes worried about the good-luck charm Kouichirou gave him and starts to believe that his wish for good grades will not come true.
Kenta meets a group of kids who found his bag and returns the bag to him. The good-luck charm is still inside, but Kenta thinks it is too late for it to bring him good luck. He apologizes to Kouichirou for losing the charm and feels sad that he let him down.
Kenta returns home and goes to bed, feeling depressed. He has a dream where he meets a monster who tells him that his good-luck charm will work if he believes in it. The monster tells Kenta that he must have faith in himself and his abilities.
Kenta wakes up and realizes that he needs to have confidence in himself and trust that his wish for good grades will come true. He goes to school and takes a test, feeling confident in his abilities. As the episode ends, Kenta receives his test results and sees that he has achieved good grades, fulfilling his wish from New Year's Eve.
