  • February 27, 2012

As humans, we are complicated beings with various complex systems working together to ensure our survival. This is why holistic health is an essential aspect of our lives, as it takes into account and addresses the individual as a whole, encompassing their physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. In season 1, episode 13 of Holistic Health Basics, we dive further into holistic health approaches and explore the topic of Reiki and its symbols in healing.

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that promotes healing. It is based on the idea that a "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. Reiki practitioners use a technique known as palm healing or hands-on healing through which a "universal energy" is said to be transferred through the palms of the practitioner to the patient in order to encourage emotional or physical healing.

In this episode of Holistic Health Basics, we focus on Reiki Symbols and their importance in healing. Reiki practitioners use sacred symbols to help focus their energy and intentions, to enhance their ability to utilize Reiki and increase the energy level of the client. The symbols are used as a way to help the practitioner connect to the universal energy of Reiki, and the specific symbol used will depend on what the client requires, whether that be emotional or physical healing.

The Reiki symbols are considered sacred and are only learned from a Reiki master. There are four symbols in total, and each is used for a different purpose. The first symbol is the Cho Ku Rei symbol, which is used to increase the power of Reiki. It looks like a coil that is used to amplify an electrical charge and can be used to increase energy flow in the body. The second symbol is the Sei Hei Ki symbol, which is used for emotional healing. This symbol looks like a square with smaller squares inside it and is used to remove emotional blockages. The third symbol is the Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen symbol, which is sometimes called the "distance healing symbol" because it can be used to send Reiki energy to someone who is not physically present. It looks like a series of arches and is useful for sending healing energy to a loved one who lives far away or for healing past events. Lastly, the fourth symbol is the Dai Ko Myo symbol, which is used to connect to higher levels of consciousness and spiritual healing. This symbol looks like a spiral and is used for spiritual healing.

During the episode, we will explore how Reiki is used in healing and the importance of each symbol in the Reiki healing process. We will learn about the history of Reiki and where it came from, as well as how it has been utilized in various cultures over time. Additionally, we'll speak with Reiki practitioners who will share their experiences with Reiki and how it has benefitted their lives and the lives of their clients.
