Investiture of the Gods - ???? - Episode 16 revolves around the characters and their attempt to prevent a looming war between the Gods and Humans. Xiang Chen disguises himself as a Taoist monk and infiltrates the Gods' palace. He manages to gather intel on their weaknesses and reports back to Jiang Ziya.
Back in the Gods' palace, Sun Wukong sets off on his mission. However, halfway through his journey, he encounters the Dragon King's daughter, who has been sent to stop him. She warns him that there are many dangers on the way and that he should turn back. Sun Wukong refuses to listen and continues, determined to reach the humans.
As he ventures further into the human territories, Sun Wukong encounters many obstacles. He battles with a demon, goes through a maze, and has to outsmart a group of bandits. But he finally reaches the human fortress and presents their peace treaty.
But the humans do not take kindly to the peace offering. They accuse Sun Wukong of being a spy and attack him. Sun Wukong manages to fend them off and retreats back to the Gods' palace.
Back at the palace, the Jade Emperor is furious with Sun Wukong for going to the humans and putting himself in danger. But Lei Gong defends him, stating that he acted with good intentions. Jiang Ziya also receives word of Sun Wukong's visit, which further fuels his anger towards the Gods.
The episode ends with tensions at an all-time high, with both sides preparing for war. Sun Wukong returns to the palace to find that his actions have inadvertently led to the escalation of the conflict. This leaves him feeling guilty and unsure of how to proceed.
