As he walks through the magic door of the costume shop, Mr Benn finds himself transformed into a clown, complete with oversized shoes, a bright red nose and a big red wig. Mr Benn marvels at his new outfit and begins to practice his clowning skills.

Once at the theatre, Mr Benn discovers that the competition is more than just a simple fancy dress contest. The contestants are required to perform a short routine on stage, and judges will assess their costumes, performance and audience reaction.

Mr Benn is up against some tough competition, including a knight in shining armour, a fireman, and a wizard. Each contestant takes to the stage and performs their routine to the delight of the audience, but it is Mr Benn who steals the show.

His clowning skills are impressive, and he manages to get the entire audience laughing and cheering. The judges are equally impressed, and before long, Mr Benn is announced as the winner of the competition.

But Mr Benn's victory is far from straightforward. As he prepares to take his prize, he learns that the theatre is about to close due to lack of funding. Determined to help, Mr Benn puts his prize money towards the theatre's fundraising efforts, and encourages others to do the same.

In the end, Mr Benn's generosity pays off, and the theatre is saved. The episode ends with Mr Benn walking back through the magic door of the costume shop, and returning to his everyday life, having made a small but significant difference to his community.
