Race Across The World Season 2 Episode 1 Mexico City to Copan Ruinas
- March 15, 2021
Race Across The World is back with another exciting and thrilling season 2. The first episode, named Mexico City to Copan Ruinas, witnesses the eight new pairs of contestants starting their adventure from the vibrant Mexican capital, Mexico City. However, this time, the show has set new rules, making the race even more challenging, exhilarating, and, at times, emotionally charged.
The eight pairs of contestants are Hannah and Grace, mother and daughter from Worcester; Jasmine and Pluto, cousins from London; Dom and Lizzie, a married couple from Manchester; Jen and Rob, dating couple from Newcastle; Shaminder and Paul, two friends from London; Emon and Jamiul, cousins from Manchester; Manisha and Sukhvinder, aunts from Coventry, and Jo and Sam, mother and son from East Sussex.
The pairs arrive in Mexico City with their eyes and minds wide open, knowing that the race will take them to six checkpoints, which they need to reach through a fixed budget of £2000. The catch? Unlike the previous season, they must rely on their resourcefulness and navigational skills as they are not given free air tickets for every leg of the race. They must find a way to traverse through the Americas using overland modes of transportation such as buses, boats, trains, and hitchhiking.
The episode starts with the pairs embarking on their journey to the first checkpoint, Copan Ruinas, Honduras, covering a distance of 1,000 miles without using air travel. The race kickstarts with a small task that they need to complete before setting off. The pairs must choose and memorize a famous song from Mexico and later perform it to the locals in a busy market. The task is not only a fun start to the race, but it also allows the pairs to connect with the local culture.
It is an exciting start to the journey, with the two cousins, Emon and Jamiul, taking a different approach and making their way to the border from where they plan to hitchhike their way to Honduras. On the other hand, Shaminder and Paul's lack of experience in navigating their way through a new city costs them valuable time.
As they start their journey, the pairs face various challenges, navigational and otherwise. The vast distances, the unfamiliar territories, and the budget constraints seem to take a toll on some of the contestants' spirit. The feeling of being lost and having no control over their fate pushes some pairs to confront their deep-rooted fears and personal struggles.
As they travel through different cities, towns, and vast landscapes of Central America, they come across several locals who leave a lasting impact on them, both emotionally and materially. Many of them end up staying with local families, who welcome them with open arms and share their homes and food. The kindness and generosity of the people they meet along the way convince the contestants that despite the language barriers and cultural differences, people are still the same at the core.
The first episode ends with the pairs reaching their first checkpoint, Copan Ruinas. Along the way, they learn that the race is not just about completing the distance, but it's also about embracing new experiences, learning from them, and challenging one's limitations.
Overall, the first episode of Race Across The World season 2 promises an exciting and adventurous journey that takes the pairs through the vibrant and diverse landscapes of the Americas while offering a glimpse into the lives of the locals. With new rules and a new set of challenges, this season is nothing short of a visual treat for the viewers.
