Ep 15. Secrets of Egypt

In season 1 episode 15 of Temples, Tombs and Mummies, titled Secrets of Egypt, we embark on a journey that takes us across the entire span of Egypt and uncover hitherto unheard of secrets that lie within. We start with a visit to the world-renowned Luxor Temple, where we learn about the significance of its various structures and their origins. We then head to the Karnak Temple Complex, one of the largest ancient religious sites in the world, where we explore the temple's intricate carvings and hieroglyphics.

The next segment takes us to the Valley of the Kings, where we get an up-close view of the tombs of some of the greatest pharaohs of all time, including Tutankhamun's. We learn about the rituals and beliefs surrounding death and the afterlife in ancient Egyptian culture, and the intricate measures that were taken to preserve the pharaohs' bodies for eternity.

From the Valley of the Kings, we then travel to Saqqara, the site of the world's first step pyramid, built by the famous architect Imhotep. Here we explore the tomb of the high priest and physician Mereruka, which features beautifully preserved paintings and inscriptions that tell us about the daily life of ancient Egyptians.

Our tour of Egypt then takes us to the bustling streets of Cairo, where we discover the secrets of the Great Pyramids of Giza. We learn about the astonishing feat of engineering that went into building these monumental structures, including the precision in which the stones were cut and the methods used to transport them.

Moving on from the Giza plateau, we then visit the Cairo Museum, home to some of the finest artifacts of ancient Egyptian history, including the iconic Mask of Tutankhamun. Here we get an up-close view of the intricate works of art and the skilled craftsmanship of the ancient Egyptians.

Finally, we travel to the legendary city of Thebes, where we explore the mortuary temples of pharaohs such as Ramses II, Seti I and Queen Hatshepsut. These temples are a testament to the greatness of these pharaohs and their undying legacy.
