Season 4 of The Last Drive-in With Joe Bob Briggs has been a wild ride, but in episode 20, we're in for a real treat as Joe Bob dives into Clive Barker's Nightbreed. This week is the 10th and final week of the season, so you know Joe Bob is going all out to end things with a bang.
Nightbreed is a 1990 horror/fantasy film directed by Clive Barker, based on his own novella Cabal. The film tells the story of Aaron Boone, a man who is plagued by dreams of a mysterious city called Midian, where creatures who were once human live in hiding. Boone is convinced that Midian is his true home, and is driven to seek it out. But along the way, he becomes the target of a ruthless psychiatrist who believes that Boone is responsible for a series of murders.
As always, Joe Bob will be joined by co-host Darcy the Mail Girl for this episode. They'll provide all the usual quips and jokes that we've come to expect from the dynamic duo, as well as plenty of behind-the-scenes information about the making of Nightbreed.
One of the things that makes Nightbreed such an interesting film is its use of practical effects. The monsters of Midian were created using a combination of prosthetics, animatronics, and stop-motion animation. This was before the days of CGI, so the filmmakers had to rely on old-school techniques to bring their vision to life. Joe Bob and Darcy will no doubt have some fascinating stories about the making of these creatures.
Of course, no episode of The Last Drive-in would be complete without Joe Bob's trademark Drive-in Totals. For Nightbreed, we're promised a whopping 36 dead bodies, 12 monsters, and 2 breasts. (Hey, it wouldn't be a horror movie without a little nudity, right?) There will also be plenty of other fun facts and figures, including the number of times the word "Midian" is spoken and how many explosions there are.
Nightbreed has developed a cult following over the years, and it's not hard to see why. It's a unique blend of horror, fantasy, and action, with some truly memorable characters and visuals. Whether you're a longtime fan or a newcomer to the film, you're sure to enjoy Joe Bob and Darcy's commentary and insights.
As sad as it is to say goodbye to season 4 of The Last Drive-in, we couldn't ask for a better finale than Nightbreed. With its imaginative world-building, unforgettable creatures, and tense action sequences, it's the perfect movie to close out the season. And with Joe Bob and Darcy at the helm, we know we're in good hands. So grab some popcorn, buckle up, and get ready for one last ride with The Last Drive-in With Joe Bob Briggs.
