The Last Drive-In With Joe Bob Briggs is a beloved horror movie show where Joe Bob delivers snarky commentary on some of the best and worst horror flicks out there. In tonight's episode, Joe Bob brings us a fan-favorite from the 80s - Dead Heat.
Dead Heat is a 1988 horror-comedy movie, directed by Mark Goldblatt. The movie stars Treat Williams as a cop, Roger Mortis, who is killed in the line of duty. His partner, Doug Bigelow (played by Joe Piscopo), together with a mad scientist named Dr. Ernest McNab (played by Darren McGavin), revives Roger with a special formula that can bring the dead back to life.
As soon as Roger comes back to life, he teams up with Doug and starts investigating a string of robberies which have a bizarre twist - all the criminals end up frozen, as if they were in a meat locker. Doug and Roger soon realize that they are dealing with something far beyond their imagination - a criminal organization known as the Union, who are using advanced technology to bring the dead back to life so they can rob banks and acquire wealth.
We get to see Treat Williams in action, as he tries to portray a reanimated corpse dealing with the horrors of returning from the dead. Joe Piscopo's cheesy comedy is the perfect foil to the film's horror elements, making this a truly entertaining watch. The scenes with the criminals coming back to life are particularly gruesome and gory, which is sure to satiate the blood-and-guts-loving Joe Bob fanbase.
Even though Dead Heat can be considered a B-movie, it has a solid premise that is brilliantly executed. The humor works well, and the actors mostly carry the movie with their performances. The movie delivers on the horror and gore front, which is what one expects from any Joe Bob Briggs-stamped horror movie.
As always, Joe Bob Briggs adds his own magic to the show. He has a knack for weaving his own stories and narratives into the movie, making each episode a unique experience. The witty one-liners, obscure trivia, and interesting tidbits make the show engaging, even for those who've seen the movie before.
All in all, Dead Heat has all the right elements for a classic Joe Bob Briggs episode. It’s got horror, comedy, and a solid premise executed with great performances. Joe Bob adds his personal touch to the narrative and makes the episode a delightful watch. So sit back, grab some snacks and drinks, and get ready for another night with Joe Bob and The Last Drive-In.
