John is piloting Thunderbird 5 when he spots a distress signal from a cargo vessel in trouble. Meanwhile, Virgil and Gordon are on a rescue mission to save a group of workers from a stalled monorail. As they work to save the workers, they are suddenly caught in a strong electrical storm. Back on Thunderbird 5, John struggles to make contact with the damaged cargo vessel and realizes that the vessel's power supply has been damaged. He attempts to guide the crew through repairs when suddenly a powerful burst of energy knocks out all communication. John must find a way to restore communication before the vessel is lost forever. Meanwhile, Virgil and Gordon fight to overcome the storm in order to complete the rescue mission before it's too late. As tension mounts in both rescue efforts, the teams must rely on each other and their Thunderbird vehicles to complete their missions successfully.
