Pontianak Harum Sundal Malam is a Malaysian horror movie that was released in 2004. The film stars Maya Karin as the titular Pontianak, Azri Iskandar as a man named Khalid, and Dilla Ahmad as Khalid's wife Siti. The movie begins with Khalid, a young man who lives in a small village, visiting his girlfriend Siti in Kuala Lumpur. Siti is pregnant and has been experiencing some strange occurrences, which she believes to be supernatural in nature. Initially skeptical, Khalid begins to experience strange things himself, and he becomes convinced that Siti's house is haunted.

As the couple begins to investigate, they discover that the house was built on top of an old burial ground, and that a Pontianak - a vengeful female ghost from Malay folklore - is responsible for the haunting. Despite the fact that the people in the village warned him not to disturb her resting place, a grave-digger named Mamat had dug up her grave to steal her jewelry, angering the Pontianak.

As Khalid and Siti try to find a way to appease the ghost and protect themselves and their unborn child, they uncover more about the Pontianak's past and motivations. They seek the help of various experts, including a bomoh (a shaman or witch doctor), and they eventually learn that the only way to appease the Pontianak is for Mamat to return her jewelry and for the village to make offerings to her.

Throughout the course of the movie, the audience is subjected to a variety of creepy and suspenseful scenes, as the Pontianak terrorizes the couple and those around them. The film also highlights some of the cultural beliefs and superstitions of the Malay people.

One of the standout aspects of the movie is the performance by Maya Karin. Her portrayal of the Pontianak is both eerie and haunting, and she truly embodies the vengeful spirit. The makeup and special effects used to bring the ghost to life are also well-done for its time, adding to the overall feeling of unease and tension in the film.

Another notable aspect of the movie is the use of music and sound design to create and maintain a sense of horror. The eerie music and sound effects, combined with the visual effects, create an atmosphere that is both suspenseful and chilling, making for a truly memorable horror movie experience.

Overall, Pontianak Harum Sundal Malam is an excellent addition to the Malaysian horror movie genre. The film effectively combines elements of folklore and superstition with a genuinely scary and suspenseful story, resulting in a movie that is sure to give viewers a good scare.
