'Terminator 5' Original Cast Reunion Not Guaranteed, Says Director Justin Lin

Has the John & Sarah Connor Era ended? Maybe . . . maybe not.

Justin Lin, director of "Fast Five" and soon a fifth "Terminator" installment, won't say one way or another whether original franchise principals like Linda Hamilton, Michael Biehn or really, anybody not named "Arnold Schwarzenegger" will reprise their original roles, said an MTV report.

That runs contrary to early rumors that Lin would reunite Hamilton as Sarah Connor and Biehn as Kyle Reese for the saga's next episode. What is known, is that Schwarzenegger has signed on to reprise arguably his most famous role as the iconic cyborb juggernaut.

"I don't know where that came from," Lin said. "Everything has just been between me and Arnold [Schwarzenegger]. Just us going out and trying to find the right partners. I have certain elements, but it's never been about, 'Hey, let's bring everybody back!' I just don't work that way."

"To me, thematically, there are certain things that I want to see in a 'Terminator' movie. A lot of that does draw back to creating this timeline that is an extension, closer tonally to the first and second movies. But to me, it's not as mathematical as, 'Hey, let's get everybody back together and we'll shoot the movie.'"

Lin also said he would decide in a month or so whether he will next helm the fifth "Terminator" project or his planned "Fast Five" sequel. If it ends up being the next "Terminator," Lin will be picking up where McG left off in 2009 with the critically drubbed by financially successful ($371-million grossing) prequel "Terminator Salvation".
