The Host (2013) is a science fiction romance movie based on the 2008 novel by Stephenie Meyer of the same name. It is directed by Andrew Niccol and stars Saoirse Ronan, Max Irons, and Jake Abel in lead roles. The film is set in a different world where humans have been invaded by a parasitic species of aliens known as Souls. They take over humans' bodies with the purpose of creating a perfect world without fear, sadness, or violence. The movie showcases the struggle between the aliens and the remaining group of humans who are fighting against them.

The story follows the life of a young girl named Melanie Stryder (Saoirse Ronan) who gets captured by the aliens and is implanted with a Soul named Wanderer. However, Melanie's spirit refuses to give up and move on, leading to a unique situation where two personalities inhabit one body. Melanie resists the alien and tries to resist her orders, and gradually Wanderer starts to empathize with her host.

Wanderer (also known as 'Wanda') starts to learn about Melanie's life and memories, including her relationship with her younger brother Jamie (Chandler Canterbury) and Jared (Max Irons), the love of her life. As the two personalities begin to understand each other, they become allies, and eventually, Melanie convinces Wanderer to try and find Jared.

The story then follows their journey to find Melanie's loved ones, leading them to a hidden human colony hiding in the desert. The humans are initially skeptical about Wanderer, given her alien identity, but as they come to know her and her unique circumstances, they start to embrace her.

Jared, Melanie's lover, is initially hostile towards Wanderer, given the alien's control over her host's body. However, despite her alien exterior, Wanderer's empathic abilities and connection with Melanie make Jared start to trust her. Wanderer develops feelings for Ian (Jake Abel), a young man from the human colony who is fascinated by the alien girl named Wanda.

The humans come up with a plan to attack the Souls' main headquarters, and they all gear up to fight off the alien invasion together. As the group prepares for the inevitable showdown, tensions rise, and relationships are tested.

The Host is a movie that blends science fiction and romance genres. The film's unique premise and compelling story make it an engaging movie to watch. Saoirse Ronan's performance as Melanie and Wanderer is so convincing that you can't help but feel the emotional struggle of both characters. The chemistry between Max Irons' Jared and Saoirse Ronan's Melanie is heart-warming, while Jake Abel's Ian adds a component of empathy to the film that rounds out the characters' relationships.

The movie's cinematography is outstanding, and the visual effects are stunning, especially the scenes where the aliens take over people's bodies. The production design of the alien world, highlighting the alien's spaceship and headquarters, is outstanding and adds to the film's overall charm.

All in all, The Host is a must-watch movie for anyone who loves a good science-fiction romance. The film showcases how empathy and compassion can overcome prejudice and hate, taking the audience on a journey to reunite human relationships in a world dominated by aliens. Avail yourself of the chance to experience this fantastic movie, and you won't be disappointed.
