Based on Meg Rosoff's 2004 novel of the same name, "How I Live Now" is a British drama about a group of children dealing with the aftermath of a nuclear fallout. Young Irish actress Saoirse Ronan stars as Daisy, a teenage girl from New York sent to live with her British cousins for the summer when political turmoil reaches their doorstep. Daisy's cousins include Edmond (George McKay), Isaac (Tom Holland), and Piper (Harley Bird), and although she is slow to warm up to them, she falls in love with Edmond and enjoys an idyllic summer before a nuclear bomb strikes London. Their young love story is then set against a background of the children's struggle for survival in war-torn England. "How I live Now" was directed by Kevin Macdonald and the adapted screenplay was written by Tony Grisoni, Jeremy Brock, and Penelope Skinner. Though the main cast is made up of young adults, the story deals with harrowing adult themes of violence and war.
