'Eastbound and Down' Director David Gordon Green Teams with Comedy Central for New Comedy Pilot

I don't know about you, but I am loving David Gordon Green's new career in comedy. Don't get me wrong, I still love the quiet, contemplative films he made in the early 2000s, but after "Pineapple Express," his contributions to "Eastbound & Down," and the assault on everything that "Your Highness" looks to be, I'm loving his voice in the comedy landscape.

Comedy Central wants to make that voice a little bit louder with "Black Jack," a series Green will co-write and direct in some capacity, assuming they can find the right leading actor.

"Black Jack" tells the story of, in the words of the Deadline article that unveiled it, "a kick-ass special ops agent" who is forced into early retirement and has to deal with life outside of being awesome.

The series, should it get picked up, will be produced under Rough House, the production company Green runs with Danny McBride, Jody Hill, and Matt Reilly.

The lead obviously sounds right up McBride's alley, as the latest in a series of men he's played who have an inflated sense of their own self, but it'd be better if they played it as a guy who really was the best, and was acknowledged as such.

And anyway, McBride's a full-on star these days, albeit in niche circles - it's a strange day when he's more front-and-center of a promotional campaign than James Franco - and he's readying a wrap-up for "Eastbound & Down."

More than anything, again, I'm up for as much David Gordon Green as we can get, so here's hoping they find the right guy.
