The 5 Best Moments from the 2012 MTV Movie Awards

The 5 Best Moments from the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Ah, the MTV Movie Awards. The general air of "who the f*ck cares" permeates the event and creates the opportunity for plenty of crazy moments year-in and year-out.

But this year, it was more about the sentimental moments, as more than one person got teary-eyed on stage. Don't you worry, there were plenty of crazy moments too... but some of the best moments from the show this year were surprisingly sincere.

So, in balancing heartfelt acceptance speeches with being humped by a fireman, here are the five best moments from the 2012 MTV Movie Awards:

Archery is Back:

Jennifer Lawrence wasn't available to attend the show (because she's pretty much the busiest actress in Hollywood right now), but she did have time to shoot a quick segment about how archery is totally making a comeback thanks in part to her role as Katniss in "The Hunger Games."

In the sketch, she's joined by "Star Trek" director J J Abrams as the two complain about the worst archery coach in Hollywood, Lester Boonshaft. The douchey coach is played perfectly by "Community" star Joel McHale, and Lawrence's deadpan aggravation is a nice touch.

Honorable mention goes to Lawrence's acceptance speech for Best Female Performance, where she gave a serious and heartfelt thanks to everyone involved, paused, then looked at the golden popcorn trophy and said, ever so sadly, "I can't eat this." Adorable? Adorable.

Emma Stone is a Trailblazer:

Whether you agree that Emma Stone is a trailblazer or not, her acceptance speech was pretty touching. "I'm a crier," she admitted when she took the stage, and sure enough, by the end of her speech she was tearing up as she talked about originality and being true to yourself, even as you idolize others. Also, we learned that Emma Stone has great taste in actors/directors/pretty much everything, and her boyfriend and co-star Andrew Garfield rounds things out by making them the cutest couple in Hollywood. Or ever.

But the real gem here was the video of Stone's former co-stars talking about her, and by talking about her I mean ripping her a new one. Steve Carell found some creative ways to call her a jerk, while Jim Carrey got even creepier than he did in his love letter video for Emma.

Johnny Depp Plays Guitar:

Is there anything this guy can't do? Johnny Depp was in the house to accept the first-ever Generation Award from MTV, with Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry on hand to present it. Rather than just walk up and accept the award, Depp played guitar with The Black Keys for a song, then accepted the award and gave a rather charming speech.

Well, of course it was charming. It's Johnny Depp.

Elizabeth Banks Gets Humped by Alcide:

Best On-Screen Transformation went to Elizabeth Banks, who made quite the transformation as Effie Trinket in "The Hunger Games." Banks, who is no stranger to comedy, made the most of her moment on stage when she found herself surrounded by "Magic Mike" stars Channing Tatum, Matthew McConaughey and Joe Manganiello (aka Alcide on "True Blood"), who all made sure to grind on her while she made her speech.

Christian Bale Tears Up Before "The Dark Knight Rises" Clip:

Christian Bale took the stage with "The Dark Knight Rises" co-stars Gary Oldman and Joseph Gordon-Levitt to show a bit of footage from the first two of their Batman movies before director Christopher Nolan came out and introduced the new clip from "The Dark Knight Rises." After the footage from "The Dark Knight" showed on screen, including Heath Ledger as the Joker, Bale got choked up and paused for a moment after saying, "It's great to remember Heath."

MTV didn't post a video of that emotional moment, but the clip itself from "The Dark Knight Rises is availabe, which you can see below:
