OH NO: Lionsgate Considering All-Tyler Perry Channel

OH NO: Lionsgate Considering All-Tyler Perry Channel If this isn't a sign of the coming apocalypse, I don't know what is: Lionsgate is considering a move that would create a TV channel devoted entirely to Tyler Perry programming. Don't they already have that? It's called TBS. Zing!

Perry, who is the creator of TV shows such as "Meet the Browns" and "House of Payne" and creator/star of the Madea movies, is a major source of income for those attached to his projects.

Though comedy snobs may turn up their noses at his content, "Tyler Perry's Madea's Big Happy Family" grossed a very healthy amount of money at the box office. I guess all you have to do is say "good afternoont" and "hallelujer" a bunch and people go nuts.

For now this is just talk, but it's pretty specific talk and it falls in line with Lionsgate's plans to expand and revitalize their TV presence. There's even a name for this rumored cable venture: Tyler TV.

I talk as if this would be a horrible thing, but maybe it would actually be great. After all, if Tyler Perry has his own network, there will be less of him on TBS, and that means seeing fewer commercials for dumb shows while watching "Conan."
