Watch Meet the Browns

Tyler Perry's Meet The Browns is a very funny series of episodes that aired between January of 2009 and November 2011. The show centers around the shenanigans of the Browns, a multi-generational family and a retirement home. Just as Mr. Perry, the producer, the Browns live in suburban Atlanta, Georgia. Leroy Brown, the main protagonist is aged 70 something. He is a widower of five years. He is a colorful character in more ways than one. His outfits are rather "loud" in patterns and colors. A hard-working Deacon, Leroy Brown works two jobs as a hospital janitor and a school enforcement officer. In an early episode Leroy learns that he has a daughter, Cora Simmons, the result of his prom date from high school with Mabel "Madea" Simmons. It is here that the characters cross over into Tyler Perry's hilarious Madea movies.

Cora Simmons is a childless widow, and a teacher. She is perpetually engaged to Reggie Brooks, the coach at her school. When angry, Cora displays a wild and crazy temper like her mother, Madea. She has known for years now that Leroy is her father. Leroy claims to have always been there for Cora while she was growing up.

William Brown, MD, is Leroy's doctor nephew that takes care of his uncle, who is diabetic. He even provides medical care to all the other retirement home residents for free. William and his wife Sasha have two adopted children. They have had problems getting and staying pregnant.

Colonel Cleophus Jackson is another funny character who lives by the rule, "Shoot now and ask questions later." He is actually an "old softy" whose wife died a few years ago. He and his only daughter, Karen, do not speak to each other anymore. He begins "seeing" Edna Barnes, a sexy 69 year old widow. Edna has no children. Eventually, she and the Colonel move out of Brown Meadows into their own place up the street. They finally marry in an episode during season 5.

The show has numerous recurring and past characters. Renee LaToya Smith, a nurse at hospital where William is a doctor, it one recurring character that becomes a regular during season four.

Meet the Browns pokes fun at Southern African-Americans in a light-hearted way. It is a very entertaining show. There is no doubt that re-runs of this funny TV sitcom will continue to be enjoyed for many more years.
