A Dead Calling is a 2006 horror and thriller film about a woman who suffers many tragic hardships while she is trying to live her daily life. Although all of these strange and horrible events are occurring, she still attempts to stay strong and sane while trying to figure everything out. In New York, a pretty young journalist named Rachel Beckwith is at home one night when a burglar breaks into her home. Caught in the act of trying to burglarize her home, the burglar panics and attacks her. Rachel has help from her fiancé, Brian, as he tries to protect her, but he ends up being murdered by the burglar. Rachel is filled with sadness and depression after losing her significant other, and moves back to her hometown in Fillmore. She figures that with the help of her parents, she will eventually get better and be able to cope with Brian's death. Half a year later, she is out job hunting and is hired by a man named Stephen Javitz, which allows her to work with the local television department. Her first task with this job is to review all of the mansions in Fillmore and their unique architecture. While on her job, Rachel cannot seem to leave the abandoned house of a man named Dr. Frank Sullivan. Since she is attracted to this mansion, she breaks into the house to get a better look, and unfortunately, she sees the murder of Mrs. Sullivan by Dr. Frank. Later when she returns to the house again, she sees another horrifying murder, this time of the journalist of the Fillmore Union Tribune, Arnold "Arnie" Harold. Terrified out of her mind and wanting to get help, she calls the police and they tell her that Arnie is not alive; he died several years ago. However, unlike Arnie being dead for a long time, Mrs. Sullivan was very much alive before her murder and is now contacting Rachel because she has unfinished business and needs help. Amazed by her connection with the Sullivan's family and their mansion, she decides to help her by searching for answers and seeing what lies beneath.
