Alexandra is a 2007 film about Russia’s involvement in the Second Chechen War. Alexander Sokurov directed the film. The story focuses on a woman named Alexsandra Nikolevna. She has a grandson who is an officer in the Russian army. He is stationed at a military base in Chechyna. He invites Aleksandra to visit him. We see the war through her eyes. Her grandson’s commanding officer and colleagues are confused and skeptical about her visit. Local residents are suspicious and rude to her because she is a Russian. This is a very well done and thought provoking movie. Russia is still dealing with the consequences of the Chechen War and this film sheds an interesting perspective on it.
