Ancient Gods of Egypt is a 2016 fantasy adventure film set in ancient Egypt. Directed by Alex Proyas, the film stars Brenton Thwaites, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and Gerard Butler. The film follows the story of Bek (Thwaites), a mortal thief who teams up with the god Horus (Coster-Waldau) to save Egypt from the evil god Set (Butler) who has taken over the throne and plunged the world into chaos.

The film opens with a narration by Bek, who introduces us to the gods of ancient Egypt: Osiris, Isis, Horus, and Set. The gods are worshipped by the mortals, who believe that the gods will protect them and keep Egypt prosperous. However, Set is unhappy with his role as the god of the desert, and he decides to overthrow Osiris, his brother and the god of the afterlife. Set kills Osiris and takes over the throne, imprisoning Horus and plunging the world into darkness.

Bek is a mortal thief who lives in one of the many cities of Egypt. He is in love with Zaya (Courtney Eaton), a slave girl who he hopes to buy her freedom one day. Zaya is killed when Set invades the city where they live, which sends Bek on a quest to bring her back from the afterlife. Along the way, Bek discovers that Horus is still alive, and he convinces Horus to help him get Zaya back.

Horus is initially reluctant to help Bek, as he is still grieving for his father and feels responsible for his death. However, Bek convinces him to help by promising to restore Horus to his rightful place as the god of the sky. The two embark on a mission to retrieve Horus' lost eye, which has been stolen by Set and hidden away in his pyramid.

The rest of the film follows Bek and Horus as they battle Set and his minions, including the goddess of love, Hathor (Elodie Yung), who is under Set's spell. The two must work together to overcome the many obstacles in their path, including giant snakes, flying monsters, and treacherous caverns.

The film is visually stunning, with impressive CGI effects that transport the audience into ancient Egypt. The costumes and sets are also impressive, with intricate details that add to the overall sense of immersion in the story. The film's action sequences are well-choreographed, with plenty of sword fights, magic spells, and epic battles between gods and monsters.

One of the film's strengths is its cast, which includes several well-known actors. Brenton Thwaites is charismatic as Bek, and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau brings a sense of gravitas to the role of Horus. Gerard Butler is appropriately menacing as Set, and Elodie Yung is captivating as the conflicted Hathor.

Overall, Ancient Gods of Egypt is an entertaining adventure film that will appeal to fans of fantasy and mythology. While it may not be the most accurate depiction of ancient Egypt, it offers a unique and engaging take on the mythology of the time. The film's themes of friendship, loyalty, and sacrifice are universal, and its sense of adventure and wonder make it a fun and enjoyable ride.
