Annai Oru Aalayam is a South Indian Tamil language film that was released in 1979. The movie was directed by R. Thyagarajan and produced by S. A. Rajkannu. The star cast included some of the most popular actors of that time including Rajinikanth, Sripriya, and Anjali Devi. The movie revolves around the life of Rajini, a kind-hearted and helpful youth, who portrays a character named Ganapathi, and his love interest Vasanthi, played by Sripriya. Ganapathi was an orphan who was raised by his friend's mother. After completing his education, he tries to get a job in the police force but is rejected due to his bad eyesight. Hence, he ends up working as a mechanic in a workshop owned by his friend.

One day, Ganapathi comes across a girl named Vasanthi, who is a tourist from out of town. Ganapathi helps her when she loses her way and the two of them fall in love. However, Vasanthi's father, played by Vennira Aadai Nirmala, dislikes Ganapathi and opposes their relationship. Nevertheless, the couple goes ahead and elopes, hiding from Vasanthi's father and escaping from the chaos.

However, they soon realize that life is not going to be easy for them without the support of their families. It is then that Ganapathi, who always lived life in his own way and enjoyed helping people, decides to commit himself to social service to avoid being caught by Vasanthi's father. He starts working at an orphanage where he meets Anjali Devi, who plays the role of the orphanage's founder. Her character is a kind and loving woman who treats every child in the orphanage as her own.

However, the dilemma does not end here as Vasanthi's father eventually finds them and tries to separate them. Things take a turn for the worse when persistent riots break out in the city, and Ganapathi finds himself amidst chaos.

Despite all the difficulties, Ganapathi, with his never-ending spirit of helping others, ensures that every child in the orphanage is kept safe and taken care of. He becomes a savior for the children and Vasanthi, who has started to change views about him. Will they finally be able to overcome their challenges, and will Ganapathi and Vasanthi be together?
