As The River Flows is a 2015 Indian drama film directed by Bidyut Kotoky. The movie, set in the backdrop of Assam, sheds light on various social issues such as illegal immigration, corruption in government offices, environmental degradation, ethnic conflict, and women's rights. The film tells the story of a young journalist named Upamanyu (played by Raj Zutshi), who works in Delhi and is given the task of investigating a dam project in his homeland of Assam. Upon returning to his home state, he meets his childhood friend Nabajyoti (played by Victor Banerjee), who is a local activist fighting against the construction of the dam. Upamanyu also meets a young and idealistic doctor named Aaradhana (played by Bidita Bag), who works in a government hospital and is determined to help the poor and the needy.

As Upamanyu delves deeper into the investigation, he uncovers a web of corruption within the government officials involved in the dam project. He also finds out that illegal immigrants from neighboring Bangladesh are being employed in the construction of the dam, leading to tension between the locals and the outsiders. Meanwhile, Aaradhana discovers that her colleague at the hospital is conducting illegal abortions, putting the lives of the women in danger.

As the story progresses, Upamanyu and Aaradhana come together to fight against the injustice and corruption they have uncovered. They confront the officials and demand that the dam project be stopped immediately. They also raise their voices against the exploitation of the immigrant workers and work towards helping them.

The film not only highlights the issues faced by the people of Assam, but also gives a glimpse into the cultural diversity and natural beauty of the region. The lush green forests, the mighty Brahmaputra river, and the rich traditions of the local communities are portrayed beautifully.

The performances by the lead actors are commendable, especially Bidita Bag, who shines in her role as the feisty and fearless doctor. The supporting cast also delivers convincing performances, adding depth and complexity to the characters they portray.

As The River Flows is a thought-provoking film that raises important questions about the government's role in development projects, the exploitation of marginalized communities, and the need for environmental conservation. It is a must-watch for anyone interested in social issues and regional cinema.
