At the Edge of the Law is a gritty crime drama from Argentina, released in 1992. Directed by Carlos Sorin, the film follows the story of a group of police detectives struggling to navigate the complex web of corruption and violence that pervades their city. Rodolfo Ranni plays Inspector Palacios, a veteran detective who has seen it all during his years on the force. Palacios is a tough and uncompromising figure, determined to uphold the law no matter what the cost. But as he investigates a series of brutal murders that seem to be linked to a powerful drug cartel, he soon realizes that he is up against forces far more dangerous than he ever imagined.

Gerardo Romano plays Kappes, a younger detective who is partnered with Palacios on the case. Kappes is more idealistic and naive than his colleague, and finds himself struggling to come to terms with the corruption and brutality that he encounters on a daily basis. As the two men work together to track down the killers, they must confront their own conflicting ideologies and find a way to work together in the face of overwhelming adversity.

Meanwhile, Katja Alemann plays Carmen, a prostitute who becomes an unlikely ally to the detectives. Carmen has her own reasons for wanting to bring down the drug cartel, and is willing to risk everything to help Palacios and Kappes in their quest for justice.

At the Edge of the Law is a tense and atmospheric film that explores themes of justice, morality, and corruption. The film is set against the backdrop of a bleak and desolate city, where violence and desperation are a daily reality for many of its inhabitants. Sorin does an excellent job of capturing the gritty, realistic feel of the urban landscape, and creates a palpable sense of tension throughout the film.

The performances are also very strong, particularly that of Ranni, who brings a grizzled intensity to his role as Palacios. Romano is also effective as the more vulnerable Kappes, and has some powerful scenes as he grapples with the moral complexities of his profession. Alemann is also excellent as Carmen, bringing a complexity and depth to her portrayal of a character who could have easily been reduced to a one-dimensional stereotype.

Overall, At the Edge of the Law is a compelling and thought-provoking crime drama that will leave viewers on the edge of their seats. The film is well worth watching for anyone interested in gritty, character-driven cinema that explores the darker side of human nature.
