Athey Kangal is a 1967 Tamil-language thriller movie directed by A.C. Tirulokchandar. It stars S.A. Ashokan, Geethanjali, Kanchana and Ravichandran in lead roles. The movie revolves around a love triangle between Sharadha (Geethanjali), Mathi (S.A. Ashokan) and Radha (Kanchana). Mathi is a blind musician who falls in love with Sharadha after saving her from a car accident. Sharadha is a wealthy heiress who is engaged to Radha's brother. Unable to bear his love for Sharadha, Mathi undergoes a surgery to regain his sight, after which he discovers Sharadha in a whole new light.

However, Mathi's world comes crashing down when he witnesses Sharadha commit a murder while he is unaware of her true identity. The rest of the movie follows Mathi's investigation into the murder and the whirlwind of emotions he experiences as he tries to come to terms with the reality of the person he loves.

The film's plot might seem familiar to those who have seen Hindi movie "Darr" which was inspired by Athey Kangal.

The movie's script is tightly woven and the direction is top-notch, making it a gripping watch. S.A. Ashokan's performance as the blind musician whose world turns upside down is lauded by critics and audiences alike. His portrayal is complemented by Geethanjali's nuanced performance as Sharadha.

Another highlight of the movie is its music, composed by Vedha. The hit song "Kaatril Enthan Geetham" continues to be a fan favourite even now, more than 50 years after the movie's release.

Overall, Athey Kangal is a must-watch for those who enjoy thrillers with a touch of romance. The movie's expert pacing and solid performances make it a timeless classic.
