Narrated by John C. Reilly, this Disney Nature documentary follows a year in the life of a family of brown bears in the Alaskan wilderness. Beginning with the last stages of winter as the bears come out of hibernation, the film crew watches as two young cubs are taught about bear life. They must make their journey down a mountain while the freezing cold is slowly fading into spring, all the while the threat of an avalanche looms. As spring becomes summer, the group must also find a new food source, following the spawning salmon. While the babies are learning about safe travel and finding a food source, the audience is able to see other threats to their survival as well--rival male bears in the same territory, threats of inclement weather, and other wild predators that would pick off the cubs, like a wolf that stalks its prey.
